Wade also holds a 9th degree blackbelt in the combat sport of Sambo and was also a national Judo champ. Killer Cradles Clinic is TOMORROW from 1pm to 4pm in Santa Monica, trust me you don't want to miss out. You can read a little more about the Hall of Famer here.

6. Certified Catch Wrestler: I just received this very nice testimonial about the Certified Catch Wrestler program and thought I'd share:

"Hey Jake,

I want to thank you for the putting together the Catch-As-Catch-Can audit as well as hosting the LA Toe Hold Club. It has been a fantastic journey.

I started wrestling at the age of thirteen and the mat has always felt like home for me. When I was young I heard of the old time wrestlers and how they competed "for real." Later I ran into information about CACC but was leery of the guys promoting their goods with their slick, long, "slippery slope" advertising techniques. A training partner of mine living in Arizona found your website and told me I should check it out. When I found the LA Toe Hold Club link I was a little dubious at first, however my experience has been incredible.

First off, I want to commend you for going to the wellspring of the old timers to get the goods and for giving credit to those that have taught you. The time, effort and money that you've put into publishing the books and DVDs have been Herculean and are a tremendous resource for those of us who want to learn. In addition, giving us access to learn, in person, from Billy Robinson, Dick Cardinal, Wade Schalles, Mark Schultz, and Josh Barnett has been amazing. And that is just in the past year! I can say without reservation the goods have been delivered.

Over the last three decades I've had the opportunity to train in several martial arts with some amazing teachers and seen a lot of crap as well. I feel I've seen enough to know a little about teaching styles. There are a lot of instructors out there who claim to know more than they do, some will only show some of the goods (keeping the rice bowl full), others are good fighters but can't teach what they do and/or can't organize their knowledge in a way that anyone else can follow. All that being said, with Scientific Wrestling you have presented the CACC in a smart and organized way. The LA Toe Hold Club allows for the practice to bring it all together.

As for the audit itself, it was damn hard -- almost a right of passage! First off the written test was much harder than I thought it would be. Running up to getting the test I did a lot of reading (even while on vacation abroad) so I assumed I would have it nailed. It was obviously designed to find out who is a serious student of CACC. The two days of training was hard as hell, nonstop (except for some water breaks) and packed full of info. I came away feeling like all the things I learned up to that point had finally started to jell. It was a true immersion into the material. I recommend training for and participating in the audit for any serious grappler. I often find myself thinking "why didn't I learn this years ago?" I look forward to continuing our training in the (not to be lost) art of CACC.

Here's the BUZZ:

“Jake Shannon has single handedly resurrected one of the world’s lost arts of grappling through his crusade. I can’t think of anyone more enthusiastic about Catch as Catch Can Wrestling than Jake. He has breathed new life into one of the toughest styles of grappling in the world. I am thoroughly impressed by his knowledge and more than that his ability to have personally befriended CACC greats like Karl Gotch, Billy Robinson and others and how he has brought them back into the limelight so that their legacies could be shared with this generation. That took a lot of dedication and a lot of selfless effort on his part. Jake has truly brought back lost techniques and lost heroes. It is a great honor to have learned from Jake and to call him friend.” - Brandon Ruiz, FILA Grappling World Champion, NAGA Grappling World Champion, 2X Pancrase World Champion, Greco Roman Wrestling Pan Am Silver Medalist, 8 x Greco Roman & Freestyle Wrestling All-American, 2nd Degree Black Belt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ruiz Combat Grappling

After visiting coach Shannon and training catch as catch can for the first time in 2007, I quickly realized that I needed to learn a style that didn't take away from my collegiate wrestling and judo experience. Instead, catch allowed me to learn submissions from positions that I was already used to. I couldn't be more grateful to Jake for putting me in that crooked neck scissors a few years ago and opening my eyes to painful techniques that really work. Nothing flashy, no politics, just catch as catch can!" - Luis Ojeda, 2X King of Catch Wrestling Heavyweight Champ, Current NACWA Heavyweight Champion, Scientific Wrestling Assistant Coach (under Billy Robinson)
