The Hybrid Coaching Pathway
Hybrid means both. We won’t certify anyone who only watched videos. We also won’t make you travel 8 weekends a year just to get a piece of paper. We blended both so the standards stay high and the path stays simple.
Step 1 — Online:
Coaching Catch Foundations (LMS)
You start inside the Scientific Wrestling LMS.
Immediately you learn:
- Core catch concepts (pressure, pain, pins, hooks)
- Signature techniques and takedowns
- Tactics for integrating catch into BJJ/MMA/wrestling rooms
- Training strategy, class structure, safety and progression
- Business positioning: how to OFFER catch without confusing students
Outcome: ✅ Online Coursework Complete
Step 2 — In Person:
Elite Coach Mat Requirement
Once you pass the online portion, you have to be vetted. You attend official Scientific Wrestling seminars, classes, camps, or private lessons with a Scientific Wrestling Elite Coach. This is where the lineage is enforced.
Your Elite Coach is checking:
- Movement quality
- Pressure and control
- Ability to apply hooks, rides, and transitions
- Coachability (we do not certify uncoachable people)
Outcome: ✅ In-Person Verified by an Elite Coach
Step 3 — Public Validation:
CatchCon Skills / Competition
We are a performance culture, not a pretend one.
At CatchCon (or an approved Scientific Wrestling testing event) you do the following:
- Skills testing
- Live demonstration of curriculum
- Competition in a division
Outcome: ✅ Performance Validated
Step 4 — Certified:
Coaching Catch Coach
Complete all three and you are officially Coaching Catch Certified by Scientific Wrestling.
What that actually means:
- You are authorized to teach Scientific Wrestling material
- You can run SW-style training blocks inside your gym
- You get access to coaching resources, drills, and progressions
- You are now eligible to step-up & apply for the Scientific Wrestling Affiliate Program

No Belts. Only Bruises.
Scientific Wrestling was built on the idea that your body is the certificate. If you train here long enough, we can tell who you are without reading your bio — ears, nose, neck, hands, pace, the way you counter, the way you persist. That’s the original “ranking system” of catch-as-catch-can. So we codify it like this:- Technical mastery over cosmetics. Works whether you're a welterweight or a super heavyweight.
- Pressure is pedagogy. We teach through resistance. If it doesn’t work on a resisting human, it doesn’t belong in our curriculum.
- Pain is information. Catch has always used discomfort to force mistakes. We don’t delete that because the market got soft.
- No online-only certifications. Hybrid is mandatory.
- Performance matters. No skipping the Elite Coach stage. Someone in the lineage has to feel your wrestling. CatchCon or official testing is required.
- Annual activity requirement. If you don’t train, certify, or coach — you don’t stay active.
