Then we got another great review of the Certification Camp from champion wrestler Jeramy Hunt-Loveless (he attended our most recent certification):
"Jake, I just want to say thank you for your great class. Billy was amazing. He pointed out things that have never been brought to my attention. It was easy to understand and implement the adjustments into my style. What I enjoyed most, were the submissions and how they fit into my wrestling. In my first grappling tournament, I followed the class instruction and used the double wrist lock that Billy taught to submit my opponent in my first championship match. Then, in my third place match, I used the cradle ankle crank. Both times, my opponents did not see these moves coming, and they both fit right into my natural style. I'm excited to master the other submissions taught. Thanks again for your and Billy's instruction!" - Jeramy Hunt-Loveless

NEW BOOK REVIEW:

Greg Jackson and Kelly Crigger's new book for Victory Belt, 'Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts: The Ground Game' ROCKS. Jackson is an inspiration for coaches everywhere and a man after my own heart. His book, 'Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts' lives up to his coaching reputation, it's technical, passionate, and strategically smart. Jackson's success as a coach is undeniable having worked with names from the biggest cards in recent MMA; names like Jardine, St. Pierre, Evans, Marquardt, and Villasenor. It's great that he teamed up with a publisher dedicated to taking instructional books to the next level like Victory Belt. Their thorough attention to detail is really quite impressive. Likewise, Kelly Crigger's pen complements Jackson's teaching style, making the book quite easy to digest and comprehend. As an author of several books like this, I know how difficult it is to deliver a quality product. Jackson and crew deliver, and then some. I highly recommend this book!" - Jake Shannon

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT... Some of you who know me, know that I have my fingers in a lot of different pies. There is of course the Macebell, then there my longtime passion for hypnotism, and in addition I've be a rather hardcore libertarian for decades. For those of you disgusted by politics and the ugly people involved, please feel free to stop reading here. I understand and won't be offended. For the rest of you with a stronger stomach, this year I did something I never thought I'd do in a million years: I am running for U.S. Congress where I now live in Utah. I am running on the Libertarian Party ticket and we've done surprisingly well! Here's a great article from the local City Weekly (it was the second most emailed and third most read article for the City Weekly during the week it ran):
"Hypno-Candidate: Libertarian candidate searches for true conservatism in the 3rd Congressional District.
In an online poll at the Prove Herald (the largest newspaper in the district) I was in second place, AHEAD OF THE DEMOCRAT!

Another local online poll actually has me in first place!

In addition, my latest book is doing well at Amazon.com. My new book, 'TEA-O-CONNED' currently (10/26/10, 11:13am) has Amazon Bestsellers Rank of 72,439 in Books! It exposes how the NeoConservative movement within the GOP has infiltrated and effectively taken over the once libertarian Tea Party movement. I've included the Forward, written by written by the man that Tom E. Woods, Jr., calls "the smartest man I know" and whom Murray Rothbard called a "universal genius", David Gordon, PhD. Dr. Gordon was also a contributor to the NEO-CONNED! books as well.
"TEA-O-CONNED Foreword by David Gordon, PhD Jake Shannon has given us an outstanding analysis of the Tea Party movement. This movement has puzzled many people. Is it a continuation of the Ron Paul Revolution? It is clear that the Tea Party forces reject the Obama administration, but what do they favor? These questions are no mere academic exercise. To the contrary, it is vital that all Americans answer them, owing to the great influence of this movement on current politics. Jake reaches into recent history for his provocative response. American conservatism, he reminds us, has to its great detriment been taken over by neoconservatives. Norman Podhoretz, Irving Kristol, and their many allies, aided by William F. Buckley, Jr., from his perch at National Review, seized control of the most influential foundations and periodicals of the American Right. They transformed conservatism into the global crusade for democracy that they favored. The Iraq War is a monument to the criminal folly of their revolutionary plans. Jake's great contribution is to show that the neocons have not ended their efforts at infiltration and control. The Tea Party movement at first manifested the strong influence of Ron Paul and his decisive defense of liberty. The neocons naturally viewed this development with dismay, as Ron Paul stood diametrically opposed to their interventionist policies. They responded with an effort, in large part successful, to takeover the Tea Party movement for their own ends. Such figures as Sarah Palin are ardent promoters of the neocon line in foreign policy, and all too many Tea Party supporters embrace the need for military action against Iran and other nations. To the extent that the Tea party forces manifest a clear direction at all, it is one that arouses considerable misgiving. Though the analysis of the Tea Party movement by itself would make this book well worth careful study, Jake offers us much more. He has thought carefully about libertarian theory, and he offers us provocative discussions of immigration and the place of corporations in a libertarian society. In the latter connection, he carefully distinguishes a regime of corporate dominance from a genuine free market. He puts his own experience in banking to excellent use in explaining some of the dubious deals that have led to our present financial crisis. This is a short book, but it contains even more. Jake gives us an account of the misdeeds of the CIA and other secret government agencies, and he offers a devastating criticism of his opponent in his race for Congress in Salt Lake City. Jake Shannon is a stimulating thinker, and I am sure that readers of this book will learn much from it. I certainly have. David Gordon"
