Start out 2011 on the path of learning the King of Combat Sports, Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling with the best!!
Seiken Shinkage-Ryu Read this great article by friend of ScientificWrestling.com, Ted Pelc: Satoru Sayama, (the original Tiger Mask), also known in the world of ring sports and martial arts as the creator of Shooto which is regularly practiced by many successful MMA competitors, is about to kick off yet another style which promises to yet again change the face of combat sports!
What makes this different from Shooto (originally referred to as "Shooting") is that this form of combat is more of a Japanese style of "Budoh" as opposed to the regular "Kakutougi". This form trains one mentally and spiritually, as opposed to the other forms of fighting which he has developed which were intended to mainly produce results when in combat. Although this new style is much closer to an actual street fight (fighters actually wore suits in the early Seikendo fights held on Real Japan Pro-Wrestling cards in order to emulate a real life street fight) than any other form of Budoh, the main objective and focal point is the preparation and behavior. Fighters train with a psychophysiological approach and use self hypnosis and meditation in addition to the strenuous physical training. Sayama intends this to be a lifestyle rather than simply a form of fighting only practiced in the dojo or on the mat. Winning or losing is secondary. What matters much more is how to live one's daily life as a "Budohka". It's an attempt to counter the alienation and spiritual emptiness so many young people feel today.

Although there are several similarities to Shooto which he "created" several decades ago, for example the octagon (for those who might remember, the original Shooto matches were held in an octagonal ring in the early eighties, a decade before the UFC), the rules are quite different from the "combat sport" he created years ago. The octagon will have no ropes, and will serve to be more of a "dohyo" as in Sumo. The closest thing I can compare it to would be a cross between Sumo and Kendo. However once again, as Sayama says who actually wins the bout is not the main point, it's how each participant carries his or herself before, during and after the matches that truly count. It's about building people who can live their lives properly as responsible adults and use Seiken Shinkage-Ryu as a tool in becoming a confident, useful member of society who is able to help others and is truly at peace with oneself.

A new page in fighting history is just about to be written! Sayama refers to it as a modern day form of Bushido (not to be confused with UWF-Bushido, yet another one of the many successful styles of combat he founded). The first promotion is scheduled to take place on October 29th at the Mecca of fighting in Japan, Tokyo's Korakuen Hall! Seiken Shinkage-Ryu, the next fighting discipline of the 21st Century!

Keep in mind, if you didn't get your Macebell from me or Torque Athletic, it simply isn't the real deal. Please be wary of "Macebell" knockoffs. Check out these recent comments from our Macebell Maniacs Facebook Page:
"I like Jake's Macebell products because they are solid, fixed-weights. While loadable gear sounds kinda interesting, I like to be able to have the weight I need consistently when I need it. After doing sledgehammer with a solid Macebell, I would be very leery of what a sledgehammer drill would do to a loadable mace-like product that wasn't completely full. I would be pissed if it got damaged while swinging it!" - Dallas Donovan
"I got one of these while I was saving up for the international shipping on the real thing from scientificwrestling.com. This knock off is a joke, the handle is slick, the metal is cheap and nasty (no protection) and the shorter length means... you lose most of the torque (thereby benefits) on all of the exercises.
I dropped mine off at the recycling centre when the Macebells from Jake arrived. Don't waste your time and money with that crap, your only selling yourself short. Just my .02" - Blair Dennett
