Competitive Scientific Wrestling!
1) The Heavyweight UFC Champion's CACC Connection!

Readers of this blog probably know, the incomparable Erik Paulson has been helping with Lesnar's MMA training.
What you may not know, however, is that Brock's main coach, Marty Morgan, is the nephew of Red Bastien, former President of the Cauliflower Alley Club. For those of you who don't know, Red Bastien and Billy Wicks trained under Henry Kohln, a Farmer Burns protege. Cool, huh?
Both Billy and Red are great, tough guys. Wicks has been trying to pass the torch in of CACC in North Carolina to Chris Rogers and Johnny Husky. Red and his lady Carol took me to a nice steak dinner a few years back in Santa Monica at Chez Jay.
The CAC asked me (and Gene LeBell!) to jointly present their martial artist award to our friend Mike Martelle from the Grizzy Gym a few years ago and last year asked me to give a seminar with Dan Severn.

4) Let's Shoot Results

A note from the aforementioned Mike Martelle:
"Hey Jake!
Just wanted to let you know that Let's Shoot 2008 was a huge success!
Kris gave Grizzly Gym a four hour seminar that was just incredible. Everyone was blown away by his material, both in quality as well as quantity - he's an excellent, passionate instructor. After we all broke for lunch, we reconvened for the competition! We had a 16-man Absolute Championship under full Catch rules. The competitors from the Quebec Toe-Hold Club were Eric Phaneuf, Simon Roy, Patrick Gobeil, Kao Sanik, Alexandre Tremblay, Dominic Leclerc, Kevin Charette, Stephane Groleau, Nicolas Exame and Carl Abdallah; Grizzly Gym was represented by Chris Wellstood, Derek Beattie, James Potts, Anthony Restuccia, Phil Bell, and Ryan Burns. In the Absolute Finals, Grizzly Gym's Derek Beattie (in the photo with me and Cam Liblik) defeated the Quebec Toe-Hold Club's Kevin Charette for the Let's Shoot 2008 Championship.
Thanks for the coverage, man, and your hard work spreading Catch; if not for you, none of this would've ever happened.
Mike"
