A Catch-As-Catch-Can Man is the Ultra-Heavy Weight Jiu-Jitsu World Champion!
1) Josh Barnett is the 2009 No-Gi BJJ World Champion!
First Sakuraba, and now another Billy Robinson-trained CACC man is dominating! Got this note from Josh last week concerning his being the BJJ Champ:

"Thanks to all for the support and to my opponents as well. Catch Wrestling lives!"
Today Josh competed at the
Got this note from United Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships Men's Absolute Division. Keep in mind, these are BJJ Rules - no neck cranks, no heel hooks, and no wrestling shoes. They also made him wear a gi.
Here's the report from our man on the scene, Jesse Marez:
"Josh won his first match via straight ankle lock in 4 min 52 seconds. Second match ended tied but they screwed Josh, no sudden death. They just said he lost, that the other dude ad more advantages. That's funny since Josh had him screaming in a toe hold and they made him let it go..."
Also there is an upcoming Josh Barnett seminar in Seattle Nov. 28th @ Ivan Salaverry MMA 230 8th Ave. N. Seattle, WA 98109. $100 a head and very limited space.
Also, next week I will be announcing another Josh Barnett seminar in So Cal... Stay tuned!
2) Our next 'Competition Catch-As-Catch-Can Certification' is just 2 months out... Hurry up and get in because this cert is almost filled to capacity. It will be our largest so far. Even Josh Barnett is mulling over the idea of coming too (no guarantee he will be here though)...
By the way, here's a great note from one of our Level 3 Certified Catch Wrestlers:
"Dear Jake,
On Sunday October 26 I took five students to the Grappling X Championships in Long Beach California. Here is how they did:
Lawrence Decoud won Gold/1st place in the men's 145 pound and under division. Lawrence is 135 pounder and they combined his division with the 145 pound division, so he was one of the lightest competitors out there. Lawrence won his division and never allowed a single point against him. He won 2-0 in the semi-finals and 7-0 in the finals. He won with great takedowns and riding people out. He controlled the tie ups and standing position in true catch fashion, especially with 2 on 1's.
Troy Castro won the men's 175 pound division. He won his semi-finals match via Double Wristlock, and finished the way Billy shows by putting his knee on his opponents head. He won in the finals by a score of 8-0. Troy did not allow a point to be scored on him in the tournament either.
In his first ever tournament Cody Ross captured Silver in the teens 170 pound division. Mark Houston also added a silver medal.
Eric Roberts won the men's 225 pound division. He won his first match with a 2 on 1 arm drag, to a high single to mount to shoulder choke/judo choke. In the finals he hit a half halch take down and rode the man out the rest of the period, winning 3-0. But the true win for Eric was the cauliflower ear he got from warming up Josh Barnett! What a great guy Josh is, giving his support to the Inland Empire Toe Hold Club and using one of our guys to warm up. Eric got to pummel with Josh and be a take down dummy. It was the high light of the day! What a family and community Jake has created where Josh Barnett is congratulating beginners on their performances. It was the best day ever for my students.
Josh dominated the open absolute advanced division. He blasted through rubber guard, hit two amazing supplexes, and hit a variety of catch submissions. Josh hit a heel hook, neck crank, and DWL. But the best moment came when he told my 11 year old son he would hit a front face lock/Grovit somewhere in the tournament. Well, in the finals match, Josh made true to his promise and won the Absolute Finals with a standing front face lock. It was motivational to see Josh put to use all of the great techniques Billy Robinson teaches. Thanks to Jake, Billy and Josh for making Scientific Wrestling such a family community!
Sincerely,
Jesse M. Marez" Come be a part of this energy. Our guys from Quebec, New Jersey, and California are dominating tournaments, you can too. Here's a quick note from Kris Iatskevich: "Hey Jake, Thought you might like to know that saturday four of my guys (Eric Dumaine, pierre Marcoux, Rejean Groulx, Guillaume Lamarche) were fighting on the Ringside pro MMA card and all four of them won. One by TKO and the other three via submission ;)
Hope all is well
Kris"
